Today, I will be teaching about Elijah, the prophet of God. Let’s open the Bible from 1 Kings 17:2 to 2 Kings 2.
Yes, Elijah existed in the days of King Ahad and Queen Jezebel; however, in those days, the people of God turned away from God and worshiped false gods, namely Baal.
This is the reason why there is no rain when you serve others, gods. Deut 11:16-17.
There was no rain at all, because Elijah saith so. 1 Kings 17:1. And you know God honors the words of His Prophet.
I believe that God loves and cares for Elijah, his servant, and that he is so special.
Whether Elijah had a wife or children, the Bible does not address that; however, it would be interesting to know.
In the end, Elisha took the place of Elijah as a Prophet of God, and he also performed miracles and wonders in the 9th century bc.
Who is Elijah the Prophet

Elijah is the last Prophet of God in his day. He is called Elijah the Tishbite. He is also known as Elijah, the prophet of fire 🔥, because he called down fire.
And do you know that Elijah has never died? Yes, in truth, he was taken up to heaven; therefore, he is a powerful man of God.
Elijah is a brave man because he is not scared to deliver God’s message to King Ahad. He also obeys God and is faithful to him.
What do people call him?
2 Kings 1:8 KJV
And they answered him, He was a hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.
Elijah’s duty is to turn his people’s hearts back to God.
In the New Testament, people thought John the Baptist was actually Elijah lol.
Elijah the Prophet’s miracles

Yes, God does miracles in the life of his servant Elijah, because by his words, saying there shall be no rain, and it came true, there was no rain for 3 years.
And by his words, after he defeated the prophet of Baal, the false gods, there was rain
1 Kings 18:41 KJV
And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
Elijah’s words have power; he prayed for no rain, and there was not a single drop. He prayed again for rain, and it rained. Jame 5:17-18.
#2 miracles
God was feeding Elijah through a raven by bringing him meat and bread morning and evening, every day, until one day the brook of Cherith dried up.
God told Elijah to go to a widow, and when Elijah met her, she was gathering sticks anyway, you know the story, the rest of the story, let’s jump ahead.
Elijah saith to the widow, saying;
1 Kings 17:14 KJV
For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail,
And it came to pass—1 Kings 17:16.
Wow, what a miracle.
Imagine you keep eating your food; however, it never runs out.
Furthermore, the widowed woman’s child was so sick, and his sickness was so severe that he died. However, Elijah prayed to God for the child, and the child was revived.
Wow. Indeed, God truly raised the dead through his holy Prophet Elijah.
Elijah called fire 🔥 from heaven to come down.
You know in 2 Kings 1:10-14. A king wanted to arrest Elijah and send his men after him. Elijah said, ” If I am a man of God, let fire come down and consume you.
And indeed, a fire comes down and consumes them. Wow.
Two separate groups, a captain and his 50 50 men, were killed by fire; a third one survived because he begged Elijah to spare his life.
Elijah and the prophets of Baal

Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal and those who worship false gods, and, surprisingly, they agreed to the challenge.
The challenge at Mount Carmel. This is the challenge.
1 Kings 18:23-24 KJV
Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
[24] And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
In my own words, the challenges are, put the bullock in the altar; however, do not put fire under it, and the God that answers by fire, let him be the truth, God.
The Prophet of Baalim is 450 people , and Elijah is alone; God is with him.
The prophets of Baal were praying to their gods from morning till afternoon, but no one answered them lol. How embarrassing.
After Elijah mocked them, they began to cut themselves with a knife till blood came out
When it was Elijah’s turn and after he prayed to God, the fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt sacrifice. 1 Kings 18:38.
After this, the people of God realized that God in heaven is a true God
Thus, Elijah challenged the false prophets, and he won. Lol. And he slew them all in one day—1 Kings 18:40.
Elijah spared the king and told him rain would be abundant.
Lessons from Elijah the Prophet’s life
Elijah is a faithful and obedient man because he obeys every word of God, and, of course, it is worth it.
The problem is that after Jezebel sends a message to Elijah that
1 Kings 19:2 KJV
Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
Elijah fled from her; I think he was scared of her, and later he wished himself to die, saying that he was not better than his father. An angel fed him, and Elijah went on a 40-day, 40-night journey without food or water.
God sustains Elijah and provides him with food to keep him alive.
We can learn that Baalim does not exist because the Prophet of Baalim called out to him loudly and even for a long time; therefore, it was time to serve him.
Our God is so powerful and mighty. The end of Elijah’s story was so interesting, because Elijah did not die, but went up to heaven by horse lol.
In conclusion
The people of God turn away from God; Elijah turns their hearts back to God. The people did say, “The Lord, he is God.”
Thus, they are going astray but turn back to the Lord God of truth.
In the end, God punished King Ahad and his wife. I don’t want to say it because it doesn’t seem appropriate.
Our God loves justice and mercy. Let us thank God for all that He has done for us. Also, be grateful to God.
God is still working to this day, and He raised Prophet vz zitha; you can type his name and watch him on YouTube.
Our God is alive and watching over us. He knows our hearts, even our works, yet he knows everything.
