Hi and welcome to my articles. Today I will be teaching you about the life of Jephthan. Yes, I will review who he really is.
I believe that God is using the man whose name is Jephthan to save his people from their enemies because God loves his people and is with them.
When we read the bible in Judges, I believe that jephthan have mad a foolish decision in making a vow unto the Lord, but why? Because his one and only daughter is having to face the consequences.
And what I like about Jephthan was that he kept his vow to the Lord and refused to break it
Who is Jephthah in the Bible?
Jephthan was a mighty man of valor and great man.
Furthermore, Jephthan was also a judge and he judged Israel for six years. judge 12:7.
You know because his mother was a harlot, therefore his half-brother does not want to give him the inheritance and drove him out of the house, and in another they wanted him to leave their house.
I do believe that Jephthan was a man of God and also a faithful man who trusted in the Lord and I believe he is a overcoming. Hebrews 11:32
What vow does Jephthan make to God?
Yes, a vow that jephtan vow and made to God is that if God gave him the victory or if he won the war, and then whoever comes out first in his house to meet him, He will give it to the Lord as burn offering or sacrifice.
And Jephthah made a vow to the Lord: “If you give the Ammonites into my hands, 31 whatever comes out of the door of my house to meet me when I return in triumph from the Ammonites will be the Lord’s, and I will sacrifice it as a burnt offering.” Judges 11:30–31,
And do you know who came out to meet him? It was his one and only daughter. and the Bible says that he tore his clothes, thus this shows that he truly loved his daughter.
You know how his daughter’s reaction was? You know the daughter love his father also and she was willing to obey his father
However, his daughter request his father for two months so that she could go up to the monastery to bewail her virginity with her friend. His father agreed to her request,
And the Bible says she goes out to the mountain for two month after the two months are over, she comes down and I believe her father offers her as burn offering.
Did Jephthan keep his vow to God
Yes, indeed Jephthan kept his vow because God gave him the victory and he won the battle in the war. Ohh, and by the way, Jephthan fought with the Ammonites and he won.
I think that he made a foolish vow so that his only daughter has to suffer, moreover, I think that he is able to win the war without that vow.
Her story ends, and the Bible speaks of her no more.
And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel. Judges 11:39 KJV
Jephthan kept His vow, however, he seemed to regret it so much.
Key lessons we can learn from Jephthan Vow
And now, I will talk about the lesson we can learn from Jephthan.. Vow
I don’t know what’s on his head, but we do know that he just wants victory & he also wants to give God something, as in return.
We learn that when we vow to the Lord, we must keep our words and not broken it. And Jephthan did a very good job.
“If a man vow a vow unto the LORD… he shall not break his word; he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.”— Numbers 30:2
However, it is not necessarily for him to make a promise to God because the Bible says,
The spirit of the Lord is with him.
And now therefore we learn that God cares more about obedience to him and faithfulness to him than burnt offerings because the Bible says that:
1 Samuel 15:22:
“To obey is better than sacrifice.”
However, we know that Jephthan is overcoming & is having great faith in God.
Hebrews 11:32
We learn that, we should think 🤔 before we make a vow to the Lord because God takes words very seriously.
Final thoughts
The Bible describe jephthanas mighty man of valour, which means he is strong, skillful and also he is brave and courageous..
Furthermore what we know about him was that Jephthah was a judge, which means he knew what was good and what was wrong. Isn’t his job to judge people?
I conclude that he is a little bit rash to vow, just because he wants to win the war & I think and believe that he regrets it
I’m not so sure whether. His daughter is offering to the Lord or she is in the house of the Lord till the day of her death.
However, I do believe that she is a sacrifice to the lord. But I know that God never desires this. Lol.
